Tilapia Puttu Recipe | Meen Puttu | Shredded Tilapia Fry

A humble lunch; Steamed rice – Hot Rasam – ‘Warm Tilapia Fish Puttu’ –> If you are enjoying this sitting at home, consider you are blessed!   Did I say I used to feel weird when the cleaning-cooking-eating is done by me while handling meat/poultry/fish in my previous post ? Several years back, when I prepared my ‘first’ non-veg dish [which was Chicken Varutha Kari – a family recipe], that night, I had ugly dreams of handling and cutting countless chicken pieces and mutton pieces with great difficulty. I can still remember how my face looked in that dream. It looked like an angry butcher working with a blunt knife . I felt as though the chicken is taking the revenge by haunting me in my dreams. It’s true that the same dream re-played every time I had to work with meat/fish. But it’s all ‘thoughts’. Once I started to… Continue reading »

Pacharisi (maavu) Pittu Recipe | Puttu using Raw Rice Flour   If you have read my posts on Ragi Puttu and Wheat puttu you will have an idea that I’m a Puttu maniac. Few text remain hidden under the seek panel so avoid to mouse-over the player]   If my ammachi (maternal grandmother) is the Queen of Bajji making , my appatha (paternal grandma) is the Queen of Queens in making Paniyarams . Chicken dishes means to refer ammachi’s recipes, mutton dishes means to refer appatha’s recipes. In that way, if white rice puttu is a usual breakfast item in my ammachi veedu, wheat puttu and this raagi puttu are done often in my appatha veedu. Dad and I like kodhumai puttu (wheat puttu) so very much that if somebody watches us me while eating kothumai puttu, their brain will do a quick pattern search and match me with some hungry… Continue reading »

Wheat flour puttu - Kodhumai puttu

Kothumai puttu – Steamed wheat cake

Trichy, Grandmother’s home I was introduced to puttu in my ammachi veedu (grandma’s house). She used to prepare huge-huge amount of arisi puttu for the whole family in several batches 😀 while my chithi used to scrap many coconut heads and my aunt used to steam them in mega size idli-steamer, mix with sugar, coconut, gingely oil and give them hot in plates. Mmmm… I used to enjoy eating them. But if I remember, I first had godhumai puttu from my amma’s kitchen. And after tasting it for the first time, I fell in love with it and almost forgot about arisi puttu :). Yeah. Falling in the aroma that spreads outside the balcony when my mother roasts the wheat flour… it’s like a sweet spell. In this post, we’ll see how to make whole-wheat steamed cake/kothumai puttu.     You can check my Puttu Making Video by clicking here…. Continue reading »
