Patra – An interesting savory snack from the state of Gujrat, India! Interesting, because, I experienced a complete medley of tastes from this snack. It has got a mixture of performance from the tangy tamarind, spicy chili, sharp ginger and sweet jaggery in it. Altogether, the taste is jumbled, but yeah it’s NICE!         I will have to write about my friends Megha, Shruti and Priya before I write about the Patra recipe. My first experience with Patra was at Megha’s house. She is a Gujarathi who was brought up in Andhra. She makes awesome laddus with wheat flour, kous kous and lots of ghee . This is yet another post that will boast about their dishes. Right from my childhood, I had liked and enjoyed many of their dishes, especially variety rice; Puliyodharai, Lemon Rice, Tomato Rice, Venpongal, Sambar and more. This Pulikachal recipe is one among those dishes that I learnt from my friends here. It is different from what we normally make because this pulikachal recipe requires no roasting or grinding job. While some consider it to be a holy dish prepared with so much of devotion during the pujas for God, it is my comfort food. Paasipayaru Inippu Pooranam for Kozhukattai | Sweet Poornalu | Green-gram stuffing for Modakas This is “THE” Pooranam recipe for Modak/Kozhukattai. Sooo delicious that Lord Ganapathi might gulp in all that was offered during the puja. Better watch him stealthily during the prayers . The tummy feels so light since we are replacing kadalai paruppu (split chickpeas) with paasi payaru (green mung beans) for preparing this sweet filling. If you’re not going to believe me about this recipe, then ask Lord Ganesh if he is willing to leave to the sea after the Ganesh Utsav .
